Project 52 | Week 16 - Window Light

Window light is some of the best lighting! I sometimes hate shooting indoors, so whenever I must, I try to find a window to take my photos in front of.

Project 52 | Week 15 - Rule of Thirds

The Rule of Thirds. This is a type of guideline that photographers can use when taking photos. It's not a hard and fast rule, but it is a common way to compose a photo to make it visually pleasing. It guides the eye around the entire photo, while having the initial focus off center.

This is the opposite of the Rule of Thirds, I have everything centered in this photo.

Project 52 | Week 14 - Texture

I thought texture would be a little boring to do.... HA I was wrong. I love textured photos! I used to do them all the time back in my early photography days. Photographers, you know what I'm talkin' about! All the bark, log, grass, and rock photos you used to take when you first picked up your camera and took a stroll through the woods? Anyone? I did that all the time! And still do! (Not saying it is silly now or amateurish, it was just the go-to thing when you were first learning your camera!) :)

Most of these photos are throwbacks! It's fitting because it's a Thursday ;) Here we go, texture:

These top two photos were taken October 8, 2012 at Turkey Run State Park. How do I know this?? Well because it was Micah and I's second BIG date. And because the file information told me so...
Cue cute picture:

*awwwww*
Moving on....

This was taken in 2012 on an adventure to Florida with friends. Sea shells and sand are some of the first things that come to mind when I think of texture.

This photo was taken nearly exactly a year later on an adventure to Maryland! Micah and I visited our good friends Emily and Brandon. We want to come back soon! :)
Sea grass is so beautiful! I love how it blows in the wind and the sound it makes. So relaxing!

Finally, this photo was taken a few weeks ago while on an adventure to TN! Allison and I visited the Gatlinburg Aquarium. Doesn't its tendrils remind you of kale??

I never know how to end these things... so, until next time! Hopefully next time isn't two months from now ;)

Project 52 | Week 13 - Winter

Sneak post!! If you are one of my fans that checks up on my blog every so often, you'll discover this post! I've decided not to share this one on Facebook. Number one reason is I don't care for this theme because it's not actually winter anymore :) (YAY!)

All of these photos are throwbacks to a few years ago. I didn't actually get around to taking winter photos this year...

Winter is such a gorgeous time of year, I wish it wouldn't be so painfully cold ;)

I kept putting this post off for weeks and weeks. When I actually sat down and did it, it only took me 10 min. I really need to stop procrastinating...

Project 52 | Week 12 - Something Blue

It seems I do these posts every other week. Hopefully I can be motivated enough to do this every week again. Maybe. ;) This week's theme is "something blue". My first thought of course was something relating to weddings. I didn't have my something blue available, so the next best thing I thought of was Micah's eyes. Photographers, do you ever start taking pictures with one idea, and as you continue an even better idea comes out of the first? That's what happened with these!

I began photographing Micah's eyes in the setting sunlight out of our living room window. Then it occurred to me to change my white balance, and this is when the magic began...

I do consider myself an amateur "strobist" and I don't usually mess with artificial light, but I decided to use my little speedlight to get more dramatic effects. I really love the final products!

Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Micah Snabl:

He was getting a little bored with me "taking so long" so I appeased him by telling him he could wear his favorite hat. :)

I figure people might comment that he "looks so sad" so I'll throw in a smiley one.

You know what I learned from posting these photos?  Google+ automatically resizes and changes the colors of photos you post to Blogger. I always noticed my photos looked off after I posted them. For anyone that didn't know this, go to your Google+ settings page, scroll down to Photos and Videos and under the Auto Enhance section, check Off.
Silly Google, you think you're trying to help, but really you're making my photos look bad. :P

Project 52 | Week 11 - Elements

This post's theme is Elements and I photoshopped myself waterbending! This photo has really tested my abilities to make something like this look realistic. I hope to continue improving on the photography style of photo manipulation. (Side note: The background image is not mine, I found it as a stock photo online.)

This move I'm making is a form of martial arts called taichi and is used in the show Avatar the Last Airbender. Micah and I found a taichi form guide and he helped me recreate some of the stances. (Micah used to practice martial arts.)

This is the move I recreated in the finished product, which isn't on that chart:

I hope my Avatar friends get a kick out of this! :)
