Project 52 | Week 9 - Gametime

Some people don't know this about me, but I am a really big video-gamer. (I probably play more video games than you do!) It all started when I was young; I loved watching my dad play games. I remember a lot of nights watching and helping him play the old 1996 Tomb Raider game on the computer. I eventually picked up the controller myself and enjoyed playing games like Banjo Kazooie, Animal Crossing, and of course the classic Mario Kart 64 and Super Smash Bros. Ahhh the memories...
For this week's picture I tried another composite photo, making it appear as if Micah and I are up in the air. (The inspiration: Super Smash Bros!) If I were to do this photo over again, I would do it outside, where there is more space to fly around. :)

Project 52 | Week 8 - Books

This week I decided to edit my themes. I would have done "Long Exposure" for this post but I decided it was way too cold out for the ideas I had. Silly weather! I also realized that I have been a huge overachiever and posting around 3 photos a week when I originally planned for just 1 photo a week. I guess I've been very excited about all the themes and just had so many ideas! So after I procrastinated this week I decided just one photo would do. I'm super happy about the final product! There have been some weeks that I just wanted to keep expanding on ideas, but alas, I've got to move on to the next one. This project has inspired me so much; I need to keep a journal of all future ideas when this is finished.

Books. I love books! And, big shocker, I love Harry Potter. It's been a part of my life since childhood. I am the Harry Potter generation. I grew up with the characters. Such wonderful memories this series has brought me. (Our children better love this series...) I'm very thankful that God has blessed me with the skills to create magical photos like these in Photoshop. They are SO fun to make! I just want to make a whole series of photos!

I love showing behind the scenes... I love Micah so much, he goes through a lot to help me create photos. ;) That face.

Project 52 | Week 7 - Shadow

This time round I took photos of a little kitten named Gryff (short for Gryffindor!) He is the most hyper cat I have ever met. We became quick friends frenemies. He attacks anything that moves... feet, fingers, shadows... Getting him to sit still for more than 3 seconds to take his picture was quite a task!

Project 52 | Week 6 - Silhouette

After a week of procrastination and finally finding inspiration today... I came up with these photos! I will admit I wasn't looking forward to this weeks theme, but I think these images are some of my favorite so far!

..... Happy Halloween :)

Big thanks to my wonderful friends who helped me by modeling and do weird things like laying on top of car headlights.

Project 52 | Week 5 - SOOC (Straight out of camera) Vs. Edited

This week's theme involves a photography technique I am really fond of: HDR Photography. I only just got into this kind of photography a little over a year ago. I recently looked back at my first attempt at HDR, and I can really see how far I've come! Behold, the first attempt (not too shabby!):

Practice makes perfect!
So on to this week. The first three images are the images I took straight out of the camera. I then use a program to edit them together to create the final image.

This scene looks familiar! It's from the Upside down series I took from Week 3. I always sharpen all my images, adjust the levels (etc), take out unwanted color casts, and straighten out the framing. (Or anything else that might need edited).

SOOC:

Edited:

This photo is from Holcomb Gardens at Butler University. In the edited version I took out the ugly blue construction wall by removing the color. This way the eye isn't drawn to it.

SOOC:

The final photo for the week was taken at Turkey Run. (My favorite state park!) If I'm shooting a fall scene I like to make the reds, oranges, and yellows pop by increasing their saturations.

Project 52 | Week 4 - Symmetry

This week I struggled a little with ideas for the project.
So I really only came up with one photo for the week! I'm adding in another photo I took a few weeks ago that I think shows symmetry.

And here's the photo from a few weeks ago at the corn maze! Both of these photos I used the HDR process. Next week's theme, SOOC, should be fun as I plan to show how my HDR photos look before and after.

Project 52 | Week 3 - Upside Down

Micah and I went on a 3.2 mile walk yesterday. The weather was so perfect and the sky so amazing; just what I hoped for when I set out to take these! This isn't photoshopped, just some clever camera angles and image rotation. ;)

I enjoyed these so much, here's another!

Time for some creepiness! This is just Micah's face upside down.

It gets weirder the longer you look at it......

Project 52 | Week 2 - Time

This past weekend I got to go hiking at Eagle Creek and spend time with my dear friend Chelsey! I choose this picture for "time" because we have been friends since the 2nd grade. That was back in the year of 1997 when we were just 7 years old! It's been a great 17 years! While we were hiking we got asked if we were twins. I guess you really do start looking like those you are closest to/ have known for a long time! LYLAS, Chelsey! :)

This one is pretty obvious for "time"! I left my shutter open for 10 minutes to track the movement of the clock hands. You can barely see that the minute hand is there, it moves around 12:13 - 12:24.

"I mark the hours every one." I had some fun with this last one! I edited this one if you can't tell ;) Taking this picture made me realize I need to invest in a macro lens.

And here's another just for fun!

Project 52 | Week 1 - You at the Beginning (+introduction)

As a graduated photography student, I no longer have projects to work on and tests to take. Being in school constantly "forced" me to be creative and take photos. I don't want to lose my creativity or become stagnant in my skills. I want to constantly push myself to be a better photographer; always learning new techniques and improving on the ones I already have. Because of this I decided to embark on a creative journey of taking a photo each week for a year. This photo project is called Project 52. I know I won't be perfect at posting each week, but this project will get my creative juices flowing once more and will push myself to work harder and become a better photographer! So here it goes! Week one, aaaaaaaaaannnd GO!

I have found that I don't really like taking pictures of myself! I don't usually take selfies unless they're with other people. So this week was a little difficult!
